JARS, a desert franchise concept of chef Fabio Viviani, has contracted technology company Square to grow and streamline its business processes.

Jars will also leverage Square’s technology to streamline payment processing and augment inventory and menu management.

The technology will also offer dessert franchise concept real-time visibility into business performance.

JARS, which currently operates in Illinois, Texas and California, plans to open more than 100 additional locations across the US.

The quick-service concept will leverage Square's franchise management capabilities as its footprint grows.

Chef Fabio Viviani said: “I’ve spent over 30 years in the business as a chef and restaurateur and as JARS began rapidly expanding, I knew we needed a technology solution that would create a seamless experience for guests, workers and franchisees alike.

“With Square, we’re able to easily manage operations across all of our locations and keep orders flowing efficiently as we grow.”

Viviani’s dessert franchise concept will use new technology and labour-saving cooking techniques to produce desserts, shakes and coffee drinks.

JARS will use the Square for Franchises dashboard to better manage all its locations.

The dashboard provides up-to-date information on shop performance, precise control over franchise-specific menu management and the ability to coordinate gift cards and loyalty programmes.

Square for Restaurants general manager Ming-Tai Huh said: “Square is built to help restaurants of all sizes run and streamline their businesses, whether you’re a small local diner or a rapidly growing chain.

“We’ve been invigorated by JARS’ tech-forward approach and quick expansion and look forward to continuing our work together as JARS spreads nationwide.”

Robots are well established in consumer goods and packaging industries, though adoption in foodservice is at a nascent stage

Current metaverse applications in the T&T sector either focus on digital marketing campaigns with real-world rewards for consumers, creating immersive experiences on-site for digitally savvy consumers through AR and VR metaverses, or improving operational efficiency through digital twin technology. As the metaverse evolves, it could offer virtual travel opportunities that complement traditional tourism. However, uptake of the metaverse by smaller travel and tourism operators will remain limited until use cases are affordable and provide a guaranteed return on investment.
