US-based Dine Brands CEO John Peyton is to take up the additional responsibilities as interim president of its subsidiary Applebee’s while carrying out his current CEO duties.
The announcement comes as Applebee’s president Tony Moralejo steps down from his role on 4 March 2025.
Moralejo will continue to serve as an advisor for the company until 4 June.
A search for a new Applebee’s president with expertise in brand stewardship, restaurant operations and marketing is underway.
As interim president, Peyton will lead the brand, collaborating with the executive team and franchisees to drive growth in critical areas such as digital experience, menu innovation, in-restaurant dining, off-premise services and domestic expansion.
Peyton said: “Tony and I share a deep respect for the DNA of Applebee’s and we are all grateful for his contributions since he took on this role two years ago. He has navigated a challenging economic environment, led an outstanding team, and strengthened our relationships with franchisees.
“I’m incredibly thankful for his leadership — he embodies what great leadership looks like. I look forward to building on his work and accelerating our plans to grow the brand and achieve superior results.”
Peyton joined Dine Brands as CEO in January 2021. Before his tenure at Dine Brands, he was the president and CEO of Realogy Franchise Group and held senior executive positions at Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide for 17 years.
Applebee’s departing president Tony Moralejo stated: “It has been an absolute honour and privilege to serve as president of this exceptional brand.
“Leading this remarkable team and working alongside our dedicated franchise partners over the past two years has been an incredible experience.”
