Dishoom, a Bombay, India-inspired restaurant group, is set to open a restaurant at Battersea Power Station in South London, UK.

Located outside the central power station building on Electric Boulevard, the restaurant is scheduled to open in December 2023, according to a report in The Caterer.

The 235-cover site will be Dishoom’s 11th, and its first restaurant in South London.

The Bombay-inspired restaurant’s menu will feature some of its signature food items, along with a chef's special dish of bhatti chicken.

This dish is made by marinating black spices and is served on the bone in both whole and half portions.

The restaurant will also feature a Permit Room bar serving cocktails, chai (tea) and other non-alcoholic drinks.

Other menu items at Dishoom Battersea include a bacon naan roll, bun maska, roomali roti rolls and salads.

The Caterer quoted Dishoom co-founder Shamil Thakrar as saying: “I am a proud Londoner, and Battersea Power Station is one of those few genuinely iconic London buildings.

“When I was growing up, my father would endlessly lecture me on the importance of the power station and its provision of power for the city – I cannot quite believe we are in the fortunate position to be opening right beside it. I am genuinely thrilled.”

Inspired by Bombay’s traditional Irani cafes, Dishoom was founded in 2010 in Covent Garden, central London.

Dishoom is now planning to expand its presence to more sites.

In 2022, the company registered an increase in its turnover by 64% to £94.9m ($115.2m) and a four-fold pre-tax profit increase to £4.7m.

According to PR agency Gemma Bell and Company, Dishoom will run a soft launch of the Battersea restaurant from 27 November to 5 December 2023, ahead of the scheduled opening on 6 December.
