Doherty Enterprises has acquired 21 Applebee's restaurants located throughout the New York City metro area in the US from Apple Metro.
Although the financial details of the deal have not been disclosed, the move is seen as a strategic one for Doherty, which also franchises other brands such as Panera Bread and Chevys Fresh Mex.
The acquisition not only increases Doherty's presence in the competitive New York market but also adds to its diverse portfolio, which includes the Shannon Rose Irish Pub and Spuntino Wine Bar, with a combined four restaurants under these two brands.
Doherty's chairman and CEO Ed Doherty said: “This acquisition marks a pivotal moment in our company's journey and aligns with our strategic vision for growth and innovation in the restaurant franchise space.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Apple Metro team into the Doherty family, knowing that their expertise and commitment will further strengthen our position in the industry.”
As part of the acquisition, Doherty has agreed to retain all team members working at the 21 Applebee's locations.
Doherty Enterprises chief operating officer Tim Doherty said: “Our mission at Doherty Enterprises is to become the best food service company in the communities we serve.
“We look forward to 'wowing' every guest, every time, as we bring our quality Applebee's dining experience to our new locations in the Big Apple.”
Earlier this month, Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill + Bar relaunched its All You Can Eat offer, featuring Boneless Wings, Riblets and Double Crunch Shrimp in the US.
All You Can Eat Boneless Wings are crispy breaded pieces of chicken available with a choice of six sauces: Classic Buffalo, Honey BBQ, Sweet Asian Chilli, Garlic Parmesan, Extra Hot Buffalo and Honey Pepper.
All You Can Eat Riblets are slow-cooked and served with either Honey BBQ or Sweet Asian Chilli sauce.
Both riblets and wings are offered to customers along with the brand’s signature coleslaw and unlimited fries, with a choice of blue cheese or house-made buttermilk ranch dressing.
