US fast-casual franchise concept Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is set to increase its presence in Canada with three new locations in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The move is part of the brand's ongoing expansion strategy within North America and follows a master franchise and development agreement signed in November 2022 with North 49 Frozen Custard and Steakburgers for all of Canada, excluding Quebec.
The first of three Winnipeg locations is scheduled to open in 2025, with further openings up to 2027.
Freddy’s chief development officer Andrew Thengvall said: “We’re incredibly excited to be expanding our footprint in Canada, and Winnipeg is a great market that will be a wonderful match for the Freddy's brand.
"Working with franchisees who are just as passionate about our brand has been key to our success in the United States and in Canada, and we're thrilled to partner with Steakburger North for this next phase of growth."
The development of the new sites will be in partnership with Steakburger North, and the deal has been signed with John Hall, a local franchisee with 27 years in the quick-service restaurant industry, and Steakburger North operating partner Turner Ethans.
Hall said: "From the moment we discovered Freddy's, it felt like the right fit — craveable food, great people, and a real commitment to quality and hospitality."
The commitment to expand into Winnipeg signifies Freddy's third development agreement in Canada, highlighting the brand's growing popularity and strategic focus on rapid development across North America.
In September 2024, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers signed four new franchise agreements for the opening of 21 new locations across the US.
The brand has more than 530 restaurants already established in 36 US states and more than 130 openings set for 2025 and 2026.
