GoTab launches pricing rules engine functionality for menu management

The tool enables real time menu pricing customisation and automation of service charges.

Hospitality commerce company GoTab has unveiled the new pricing rules engine functionality designed for menu management, improved price transparency and guest engagement.

This tool provides operators the ability to customise menu pricing in real time, automate service charge calculations and apply discounts.

Operators will be able to set specific pricing rules based on product, menu, category and even time of day.

This facilitates dynamic pricing strategies such as peak pricing during busy hours, happy hour specials or seasonal promotions.

The engine's automated service charges enables operators to integrate service charges directly into menu prices, enhancing clarity.

The functionality also provides flexible pricing adjustments, whereby operators can adjust prices by percentage or a fixed amount and choose how to round prices for simplicity.

Discounts and promotions can be applied directly, making it easier for customers to understand their savings without viewing separate discount line items at checkout.

These features collectively contribute to a more streamlined and transparent billing process.

GoTab chief technology officer Daryoush Mansouri stated: “Our goal is to make pricing management as seamless as possible for operators while enhancing the guest experience. With pricing rules, operators can automate many aspects of their pricing strategy — whether that’s simplifying service charges or offering real-time promotions.”

The new pricing rules engine is also compliant with the state of Minnesota’s price transparency law, effective from 1 January 2025, which requires charges such as service fees to be included in the displayed price.

The engine supports compliance by integrating these charges into menu prices.

On customer-facing devices (CFDs) and printed receipts, all applicable fees are clearly displayed, ensuring guests are fully informed of any charges affecting their bill.

The engine is available to all GoTab operators, with a focus on assisting Minnesota businesses in adapting to new legal requirements.

In September 2023, GoTab introduced the Pocket point-of-sale (POS) device that empowers servers with mobile ordering and payment capabilities, streamlining communication within hospitality venues.
