Hagen reveals next-gen espresso bar concept in London

The new outlet, Hagen's largest and the most advanced of its 15 London locations, will feature a roasting room.

Hagen has revealed a next-generation espresso bar in the heart of London's Mayfair, World Coffee Portal has reported.

The design of the Mayfair store, which is a collaboration between Hagen founder Tim Schroeder and Munro, a Fitzrovia-based luxury hospitality design studio, draws inspiration from Denmark's Tivoli amusement park.

The interior's red, green and terracotta palette creates a warm and inviting mid-20th-century atmosphere.

The espresso bar's layout, with limited seating, is centered around a circular zinc counter that highlights the baristas' skills, reminiscent of high-end sushi restaurants and cocktail bars. This Scandinavian ambience is a key feature of the new concept.

In line with Hagen's sustainability efforts, the Mayfair site includes a compact, low-emission electric Bellwether shop roaster for on-site roasting.

Hagen's partnership with Bellwether began in December 2023, aiming to reduce the coffee group's carbon footprint. A Bellwether Series 2 roaster is also in operation at Hagen's Belgravia location.

The new outlet, which is the largest and most advanced of Hagen's 15 London locations, is set to feature a roasting room by 2025.

This will offer customers the unique experience of ordering coffee roasted to their preferred flavour profile.

At the forefront of speciality coffee, the new Mayfair site will serve a variety of unique blends, including a single origin from Hagen's Himalayan speciality coffee project in Taplejung, Nepal.

This direct trade initiative, launched in 2019, assists 1,000 coffee farmers with tools and training to improve their access to export markets.
