Global chicken restaurant brand KFC has announced reaching its landmark 30,000th location globally by opening a new store in Rome, Italy.

KFC Global CEO Sabir Sami said: “Opening our 30,000th restaurant is a testament to the support of our local business partners, employees and customers over the past nearly 75 years.

“While we are a global brand, we aim to meet the unique needs and expectations of our guests on a local level, with menus that resonate with the local culture and flavours of each community.

“That also includes serving local communities through our food donation and upskilling programmes, which operate in many of our markets, including Italy.”

The new outlet features advanced double-sided kiosks and digital menu boards.

KFC master franchisee COB, along with its franchise partners, plans to open more than 25 new KFC stores across Italy in 2024.

The expansion plan will take the total number of KFC restaurants in the country to more than 100 by the end of the year.

KFC also has plans to mark its presence in its 150th country within the same timeframe.

In 2023, the chain has opened 2,700 new restaurants in 96 countries. This includes significant growth in India and Latin America.

KFC Global chief development officer Nivera Wallani stated: “The pace of our development would not be possible without our trusted franchise partners who share our vision and drive for excellence, innovation and building with purpose.

“I’m excited to help lead KFC’s journey of scaling to serve feel-good food through inclusive, equitable and sustainable business practices.”

In February 2024, Mitsubishi planned to sell its entire 35% equity stake in KFC Holdings Japan, which operates the Kentucky Fried Chicken brand in the country.
