KFC India has launched a special sign language bucket to raise awareness about Indian Sign Language,

According to a report by the Hindu, the new bucket was launched on the International Day of Sign Languages, which occurred on 23 September.

It will be available across all KFC outlets in the country for one week and will have images of sign language motions for basic terms such as ‘hello’, ‘please’, ‘good morning’, ‘how are you’, ‘have a good day’, ‘lol’ and ‘What’s up?’

In addition to signs of basic terms, the buckets will also feature signs for numbers and sizes to facilitate ordering at the restaurant.

The new initiative is part of the brand’s Kshamata programme, which aims to bridge the gender and ability gap to empower women and those who are speech and hearing impaired at their restaurants.

The programme has also seen the introduction of a special sign language menu at two restaurant outlets in the south Indian city of Hyderabad.

According to the news agency, these KFC venues are operated by speech and hearing-impaired employees.

In June 2022, KFC India revealed its new initiative, KFConscious, which aims to set up sustainable restaurants in the country.

The move aligns with the brand's efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions and support sustainable development in the industry.

The first of these sustainable locations has already been set up at Thiyagaraya Nagar (T Nagar) in the South Indian city of Chennai.
