Kyan Café, a coffee chain from Al Qassim, Saudi Arabia, has opened its first outlet in Iraq in a significant step in its Middle East expansion efforts.

The drive-through outlet is located in the Iraqi port city of Basra.

The chain offers an iced coffee menu and espresso-based beverages, as well as traditional Saudi and Turkish coffees.

It aims to become a leading operator in the region with plans to open stores in Baghdad, Karbala and Erbil, as reported by IraqiNews.com.

Founded in 2009, Kyan Café has 356 stores globally.

Its presence in the Middle East comprises Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The Al Qassim-based chain's venture into Iraq represents its eighth regional market and follows its inaugural store outside the Middle East, which opened in New York, US in November 2024, as reported by World Coffee Portal

The brand's first American store opened in the Morris Park neighbourhood of the Bronx — often referred to as "Little Yemen" due to its high concentration of Yemeni-owned businesses. Its menu includes americanos from $2.99 and lattes from $4.99 alongside its signature Saudi and Turkish coffees.

The company has identified Iraq as a burgeoning market for premium coffee consumption, with a growing demand for espresso-based drinks and Western café concepts.

Iraq's coffee market features domestic chains such as Ridha Alwan Coffee, Shaghf Coffee from the UAE and Dose Café from Kuwait, and European brands including Italy’s Caffè Vergnano 1882 and Turkey’s Espressolab.
