Lightspeed introduces new Kitchen Display System for restaurants

The system is available to all Lightspeed Restaurant merchants in North America, Europe and other regions.

Lightspeed Commerce has launched the Kitchen Display System (KDS), a solution designed to enhance order and efficiency in high-volume restaurant kitchens.

The KDS aims to improve the omnichannel experience for merchants by combining automation with human-driven service, helping restaurants manage orders, optimise workflows and reduce waste.

Its introduction comes in response to a survey conducted by Lightspeed involving 400 restaurant workers across the US and Canada.

Lightspeed's KDS offers real-time updates across devices, reducing miscommunication between front-of-house and back-of-house teams.

It tackles issues such as last-minute order changes and misunderstood orders, which are primary challenges during service.

The system instantly reflects changes, allowing kitchens to adjust quickly and maintain order accuracy. Lightspeed KDS's customisable workflows help prioritise orders and streamline processes, particularly during busy periods.

It helps minimise both paper and food waste through paperless operation and the automation of order accuracy.

Integrating with Lightspeed Tableside service, powered by Tap to Pay, and the unified POS system, orders flow directly into the kitchen.

It is now available to all Lightspeed Restaurant merchants in North America, Europe, and other regions.

Lightspeed Hospitality SVP Adoniram Sides said: "Kitchens can be chaotic, but with the right tools, they don't have to be. Lightspeed KDS helps teams thrive, even under pressure. With instant updates, communication between front-of-house and back-of-house significantly improves, restaurants reduce waste, and diners get even better service.

“Whether managing online orders, pickup, or dine-in, KDS ensures all orders are seamlessly communicated to the kitchen. Paired with Tableside, front-of-house staff can update kitchen operations from anywhere, keeping everything on track during the busiest shifts."

In October 2024, Lightspeed upgraded its integration with the team management application 7shifts, aimed at optimising payroll and operational processes for restaurant proprietors throughout North America.
