McDonald's is set to launch the Adult Happy Meal in Australia, after seeing success in the US.
The Adult Happy Meal will be available from 14 February 2024 and will include a choice of a ten-piece box of Chicken McNuggets or a Big Mac, accompanied by fries, a drink and a nostalgic toy that adult purchasers will remember from their childhoods.
The super-sized box also features collectables.
The collectable toy included in the Adult Happy Meal is McNugget Buddies - a set of iconic 1990s toys that were discontinued in Australia in 2019.
Each toy now comes with collector’s trading cards, aiming to evoke nostalgia among the adult fans of McDonald’s.
The fast-food chain's collaboration with US fashion label Cactus Plant Flea Market in October 2022 marked the introduction of this grown-up twist on the classic children's menu item.
The initial release of the Adult Happy Meal in the US featured four toys, including redesigned versions of McDonald’s mascots Grimace, the Hamburglar and Birdie, along with a new character named Buddy.
The launch follows a previous collaboration with American entertainer Kerwin Frost, which resulted in a second Happy Meal for adults at the end of 2023.
McDonald’s Australia marketing director Amanda Nakad stated: “The McNugget Buddies were first introduced to Aussies in 1998 as part of a limited-time Happy Meal featuring glow-in-the-dark McNugget Buddy collectables.
"They’re best known for their wacky adventures, wild imaginations, unique personas and interchangeable outfits. No matter how long it’s been, Macca’s fans never forget the feeling of opening a Happy Meal box to see the surprises inside.
“Fans told us they wanted to celebrate that quintessential childhood experience again, so we’ve delivered for the big kids."
