Fast food restaurant giant McDonald’s is planning to discontinue its ground coffee and premium roast coffee from the menu starting tonight, according to Macau Business.com.

On its Facebook page, the restaurant company shared that the two coffee options would officially “retire” and “bid farewell” to the market.

The netizens have not welcomed the move. They stated that the removal of the coffee options from the menu was an incorrect one.

A McDonald’s outlet manager also confirmed the decision to the news agency and noted that the brand plans to replace the items with new “revitalised” coffee options as part of the company’s transformative approach.

McDonald’s manager was quoted by the media house as saying: “In the future, McDonald’s primary catering line will utilise coffee beans featured in its McCafé line, which will enhance the level of quality at  the same prices for customers.”

However, the restaurant manager noted that there would be no change in the selling hours of these items.

As a replacement for ground coffee and premium roast coffee, the restaurant brand plans to launch its coffee-house sub-brand McCafé’s americanos and lattes, according to a report by the South China Morning Post.

Reuters reported that in June this year, McDonald’s Japan unveiled plans to increase prices across 184 city centre branches to cope with the increasing labour and rental costs.

McDonald’s Holdings Company Japan plans to apply the new pricing structure from 19 July 2023.
