Fast food restaurant McDonald’s has opened a new restaurant in the town of Nenagh, Republic of Ireland, the Nenagh Guardian has reported.

Located at Nenagh Business Park on Limerick Road, the new restaurant also features a drive-through facility.

The new McDonald’s venue has created 75 employment opportunities in the region, from full-time and part-time crew member roles to mid and senior managerial positions.

The beef, bacon, milk, water and eggs served in the Nenagh restaurant will be 100% locally sourced.

McDonald’s franchisee John Quirke was quoted by the news agency as saying: “This major investment in Nenagh reflects McDonald’s commitment to growing its business in Ireland and I’m pleased to confirm our new store has already created significant levels of direct employment, as well as indirectly through the agri-food and manufacturing supply chain.

“McDonald’s is committed to serving the local communities around our restaurants, so we are very much looking forward to building relationships with local community groups, organisations and stakeholders in Nenagh and the surrounding area.”

Quirke explained that the restaurant team will be focused on establishing strong community links in Nenagh, as well as in the surrounding areas in the months ahead.

With the addition of the Nenagh location, McDonald's restaurant portfolio in the Republic of Ireland now stands at 96, all run by franchisees.

In January 2022, McDonald’s partnered with vegan company Beyond Meat to launch its first plant-based burger, the McPlant, in the UK and Ireland.

Featuring a patty co-developed with Beyond Meat, the burger was tested by the company at more than 250 restaurants.

The plant-based burger, which took more than three years to develop, was the first plant-based option offered by the company to its British and Irish customers. The McPlant was rolled out across all McDonald’s outlets in the UK and Ireland.

Analyzing the metaverse impact in the foodservice sector

The COVID-19 pandemic brought key IoT use cases to the attention of the T&T industry. However, beyond the use cases catalyzed by the pandemic, the digitalization enabled by IoT solutions provides T&T companies with four key benefits: enhanced operational efficiency, reduced costs, improved decision-making, and better customer experiences. IoT can even assist in the burden of overtourism and the preservation of heritage sites and physical environments. IoT is, therefore, an essential investment for travel and tourism companies in combatting climate change.
