German holding company Mutares SE & Co KGaA has completed the acquisition of restaurant chain Temakinho from Cigierre – Compagnia Generale Ristorazione, owned by BCEC IX funds managed by BC Partners.

Headquartered in Milan, Italy, Temakinho is known for its Japanese-Brazilian sushi, meat-based cuisine and drink offerings.

The company employs 160 people and operates ten directly managed restaurants in Italy, including locations in Milan, Rome, Bologna and Florence.

Temakinho also has three franchising restaurants in Italian airports and one in Lyon, France.

The company’s central kitchen near Milan is pivotal to its operations. Selected ingredients are processed in the location and semi-finished products are stored there before delivery.

Temakinho also serves customers through delivery and takeaway channels.

In 2022, the restaurant chain generated revenues of approximately €20m (21.6m).

Through the acquisition of Temakinho, Mutares aims to bolster its retail and food segment, establishing a new platform investment within the premium food retail sector.

Due to its effective brand positioning and a scalable business model, Temakinho will help Murtares achieve high returns and significant growth opportunities.

Temakinho’s operational focus will also be on expanding its Italian presence by opening new franchising and directly managed stores, alongside investing in marketing strategies to relaunch the brand and attract new customers.
