Noodles & Company appoints Drew Madsen as permanent CEO

Madsen has been serving as the interim CEO of the company since November 2023 following the departure of Dave Boennighausen.

Us fast-casual dining chain Noodles & Company has announced the appointment of Drew Madsen as its permanent CEO, effective from 6 March 2024.

Madsen has been serving as the interim CEO of the company since November 2023, following the departure of Dave Boennighausen.

He has been a member of the company's board of directors since September 2017.

Noodles & Company board chairman Jeff Jones said: “On behalf of the entire board, we are thrilled Drew will be leading Noodles as CEO. As interim CEO, Drew quickly assessed our most important opportunities and has aligned the organisation around five strategic priorities that are focused on driving traffic growth.

“As permanent CEO, he provides the business continuity necessary to execute on these priorities through 2024 and beyond.

“Drew is already driving a culture of rigour, accountability and operational excellence. Because of this leadership style, coupled with his extensive restaurant industry experience and operational expertise, the board is confident in Drew’s ability to drive sustainable growth and create long-term shareholder value.”

His experience includes leadership roles at several well-known brands. Before joining Noodles & Company, he was the president and COO of the Panera Bread Company.

Madsen has also held the position of president and chief operating officer at the Norwegian Cruise Line division of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.

His tenure at Darden Restaurants, from 2005 to 2013, saw him serve as president and chief operating officer, as well as being a member of the board.

Madsen's career began at General Mills, where he held positions in brand management, including vice-president of marketing.

Madsen said: “I believe Noodles is a differentiated brand with a strong value proposition, and I am excited to lead the team as we deliver exceptional experiences for all current and future Noodles customers.

“In 2024 we are focused on driving traffic growth, and we will do so by creating a culture of operational excellence, ensuring brand relevance through new and enhanced menu offerings, better utilising our digital strengths, developing a long-term strategy for growing our catering business and fortifying our financial position.

“With this focus, I believe that Noodles is well-positioned to win. I look forward to working with the management team and our 7,000-plus passionate team members to realise the brand’s full potential.”
