South Korean foodservice brand Pelicana Chicken will open its first Maryland location in Rockville, taking over a space previously occupied by Woodside Deli at 4 N Washington Street.
The deli, which closed in the summer of 2022 after a twelve-year tenure, will give way to Pelicana's new venture, as reported by The MocoShow.
The new venture will commence operations in the autumn of 2024.
This expansion marks a significant milestone for Pelicana Chicken, which was founded in 1982 in Daejeon, South Korea and now has 3,000 stores globally. Pelicana is known for its range of sauces and chicken options, all prepared with fresh ingredients.
Its menu features wings and boneless and whole chicken options, complemented by Korean dishes and sides. Pelicana's signature Sweet & Spicy sauce is available in three levels of heat. The brand uses new oil daily to ensure the quality of its food.
The Rockville location is near those already established in Annandale and Sterling, Virginia.
Pelicana Chicken's US presence began with the opening of its first restaurant in Flushing, Queens, New York, in 2014. Since then, it has expanded to regions including New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Southern California and Las Vegas.
In May 2024, Pelicana made its debut in Houston, Texas with a location at 10603 Bellaire Blvd., near the Sam Houston Tollway. The brand continued its US expansion with its first Long Island restaurant in December 2023, located in Plainview. Brian Kim, a local entrepreneur from nearby Syosset, was instrumental in bringing Pelicana to Long Island.
