Indian Railways has opened its second Rail Coach restaurant, this time at Pune railway station in the state of Maharashtra, The Times Of India has reported.
Located near the Divisional Railway Manager's office, the Rail Coach will be managed by Indian restaurant company Haldirams.
Covering an area of 100m², it will operate round the clock and will accommodate 40 guests.
A railway official was quoted by the news agency as saying of the new restaurant: “It offers a wide range of products including beverages, chaats, chola bhatura, North Indian, pack sweets and namkeens, pau bhaji, raj kachori, softy, South Indian, traditional Indian sweets, veg thali and combo etc."
The Rail Coach also features a takeaway counter for quick service.
The country’s railway authorities plan to open more such restaurants.
Pune rail division and the divisional commercial manager Ramdas Bhise stated: “The Coach restaurant will provide hygienic and delicious food not only to the passengers but also for the common public.
“This coach restaurant, which is to be operated by Haldirams, will be a special attraction for the youth and college students in the nearby area as it will provide service round the clock.”
In May 2023, the South Central Railway also opened a rail coach restaurant at Necklace Road railway station in the south Indian city of Hyderabad, The Hindu reported.
