RIO Brazilian Steakhouse is set to open its first Scottish venue in Edinburgh on 9 February 2024, The Herald has reported.

The new Edinburgh location has been launched following the brand's success in England.

Located in the historic Assembly Rooms on George Street, the 150-seat venue is expected to be competitively priced.

The restaurant will serve genuine Brazilian Churrasco [a rotisserie mixed grill]. Meats will be carved tableside, showcasing the traditional Brazilian method of serving known as rodizio.

RIO, which has taken over the space previously occupied by Jamie’s Italian, will feature a central sushi bar where chefs will prepare authentic dishes.

The venue will feature an endless gourmet salad bar with imported cheeses and meats to enhance the dining experience with a touch of Brazilian flair.

The new venue is part of RIO's expansion strategy, which has seen the brand grow to eight locations since its inception in Jesmond in November 2019.

The Edinburgh steakhouse joins the existing RIO establishments: Chester, Durham City Centre, Jesmond in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Middlesbrough, Newcastle’s Quayside, Warrington and York.

RIO Brazilian Steakhouse co-owner Rodrigo Grassi said: “It’s an exciting moment for us to announce RIO’s arrival into Edinburgh on the ninth of February, bringing our unique concept to Scotland for the first time.

“We look forward to welcoming our first guests through the doors ... in true Brazilian fashion, with plenty of good food, drink and celebration!”

The restaurant, owned by co-founders Rodrigo Grassi and Howard Eggleston, is part of the Tomahawk Steakhouse Group.
