US-based fast-casual restaurant chain Russo's New York Pizzeria & Italian Kitchen has signed a multi-unit development agreement with a new franchisee, Javier Aguilar, to open ten outlets in Mexico City by 2027.
The international expansion aims to introduce its New York-style pizza and Italian dishes to Mexico City's food scene.
Identifying the rapid growth opportunity there, Javier Aguilar aims to address the gap in the local market for New York-style pizza and classic American-Italian cuisine.
Javier Aguilar said: “Russo’s offers a taste of Little Italy with unique menu items and family recipes, including favourites like the Prosciutto & Burrata Pizza, Truffle Mushroom Pizza and Pesto Chicken Pizza.”
“Furthermore, their selection of classic Italian pasta dishes — made fresh to order using all-natural ingredients — truly sets them apart.
“The ability to open a range of store sizes — from 1,200ft² to 3,000ft² - allows us to develop upscale pizzerias as well as carry-out and delivery outlets tailored to the local market.
“There is no commissary - every menu item is made fresh to order, and the average food cost is 22%. We’re excited to be part of the Russo family and to [...] bring the brand to Mexico City.”
The brand also revealed new store openings across the US states of Arizona, Texas and California, and international markets such as the Philippines, Qatar and Dubai.
Russo’s New York Pizzeria founder, CEO and chef Anthony Russo said: “We are thrilled to have Javier onboard. His extensive experience as a multi-unit franchisee and restaurant operator will be invaluable as we continue to grow our brand internationally.
“Our goal is to support our franchisees so they can maximise their growth potential in each market.”
Russo’s menu includes hand-tossed New York-style pizzas, lasagna, baked ziti, spaghetti carbonara, fettuccine Alfredo, gnocchi and many other Italian dishes. All are available for both dine-in and delivery sales.
The restaurant also offers halal and gluten-free options and regional items.
In February 2024, Russo’s expanded its menu with two new Sicilian-inspired dishes.
