Texas barbecue chain Smokey Mo's BBQ has announced the opening of a new franchise location near the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) campus in the US.

The expansion will bring the total number of the brand’s outlets in the San Antonio area to six.

A grand opening event is scheduled for the local community on 21 September 2024.

The UTSA location offers in-house smoked meats, breakfast tacos, homestyle sides and the oversized Chopped Baker with smoked meats, sauces and sides.

The Saldivar Brothers, franchisors of Smokey Mo's BBQ, have increased their store count to two, with the addition of this new outlet to their existing one at Stone Oak Parkway in San Antonio.

Smokey Mo's BBQ franchisee Bobby Saldivar said: “We are so excited to open our second Smokey Mo's location, and to bring the best neighbourhood barbecue in Texas to our new location near UTSA.

“We know our new neighbours will love our in-house smoked meats and friendly service, and we look forward to supporting our new community!”

Switchback Capital, the owner of Smokey Mo's BBQ, has plans for further expansion to bring the barbecue restaurant to more local communities through both franchising and corporate locations.

Smokey Mo's BBQ president Craig Haley said: “We're thrilled to work with our longtime franchise partners to bring our signature slow-smoked barbecue to the UTSA community.

“We look forward to more expansion from our franchise partners in coming years.”

As well as its current 19 locations, Smokey Mo's BBQ is set to open corporate-owned outlets in Temple and Harker Heights of Texas towards the end of 2024.
