US-based casual restaurant chain Steak 'n Shake has announced that it will implement the PopID platform on its self-ordering kiosks for loyalty rewards and automated payments.

PopID claims its technology will enable the restaurant chain to transform digital interactions and payments using consumer-initiated biometric verification.

The restaurant chain will initially instal the platform across select locations in the Orlando market, with plans to expand the tech to more than 300 corporate locations.

The tech firm noted that its Check-In feature is an opt-in service that scans consumers' faces to sign into their loyalty reward account automatically.

Once the process is completed, the system checks the customer's past orders, making the ordering process as convenient as possible.

The company added that once the customer checks in with PopID, they also have the option to use PopPay to complete their payment.

PopID also claimed that PopPay reduces fraud and payment processing fees.

Steak 'n Shake chief information officer Keith Correia said: “Our partnership with PopID is a key part of our effort to provide guests with a fast and seamless ordering experience.

“When using PopID Check-In, a guest does not need to use their phone or take out their wallet as part of the ordering process.

“They will automatically be checked in for loyalty rewards and they can choose to make an automated payment with PopPay. A guest can even see their past orders and quickly reorder their favourite menu items. Ordering at Steak 'n Shake has never been easier or more convenient.”

Steak 'n Shake was established in 1934 in Normal, Illinois, and offers steakburgers and milkshakes. It currently operates 628 locations globally.
