American fast casual restaurant chain Sweetgreen has expanded its menu with the introduction of the BBQ Salmon protein plate.

This addition is part of the restaurant chain’s "New Year, Full You" campaign, through which it aims to provide customers with nutritious and protein-rich meal options.

The BBQ Salmon protein plate is designed to cater to those seeking a high-protein diet.

It features 33g of protein, which comes from Sweetgreen’s salmon roasted in olive oil.

The plate is served alongside wild rice, roasted sweet potatoes, and housemade veg slaw, topped with a honey BBQ sauce.

This sauce, developed in partnership with Chef Charlie McKenna of Lillie's Q, is only available at Sweetgreen. It is sweetened with honey and date syrup rather than processed sugars, or artificial stabilisers or preservatives.

The BBQ Salmon plate, which is available for a limited period, can be ordered through the Sweetgreen app and website, alongside the core menu of protein plates such as Hot Honey Chicken, Miso Glazed Salmon, and Southwest Chicken Fajita.

Sweetgreen said that it uses Extra Virgin Olive Oil for roasting proteins, vegetables, and grains, with plans to incorporate avocado oil into its recipes.

Sweetgreen Culinary head Chad Brauze said: “Our new BBQ Salmon pairs together two iconic Sweetgreen flavours, our housemade tamari miso-maple glaze from our new salmon plate and the tangy, sweet and smoky BBQ sauce our customers love.”

As part of its loyalty programme, Sweetpass or Sweetpass+, the company is also rewarding customers for developing healthy habits through a series of incentives that run until 31 January.
