Teriyaki Madness to expand overseas presence with new franchise agreement

The company plans to open 16 new restaurants across Central America, of which eight will be in El Salvador.

US restaurant chain Teriyaki Madness (TMAD) has signed a master franchise agreement to expand its presence across Central America.

The agreement will mark TMAD’s foray into new markets like El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

The restaurant group, which already has more than 65 venues across Central America, plans to open 16 new restaurants, of which eight will be in El Salvador.

The remaining eight restaurants will be opened in other Central American countries.

In El Salvador, Jose Garcia will be responsible for expanding TMAD’s presence.

Garica said: “Looking ahead, I am optimistic about TMAD's future as the premier restaurant in the country's Asian segment. As we gear up for the franchise's launch in El Salvador, I envision the aggressive expansion across El Salvador and neighbouring countries in subsequent years.

“We have a lot of Asian food restaurants here in El Salvador, and there is a huge opportunity for TMAD to become successful.”

The latest international expansion is part of TMAD’ expansion spree. So far in 2023, the company opened 16 new stores and sold 69 units across the US.

Additionally, the company has witnessed a 21% surge in systemwide sales year-over-year.

“As we spread our wings with new signings like Central America, it is not just about growth. It is about introducing delicious, healthy, accessible options to new and growing markets.”

Current metaverse applications in the T&T sector either focus on digital marketing campaigns with real-world rewards for consumers, creating immersive experiences on-site for digitally savvy consumers through AR and VR metaverses, or improving operational efficiency through digital twin technology. As the metaverse evolves, it could offer virtual travel opportunities that complement traditional tourism. However, uptake of the metaverse by smaller travel and tourism operators will remain limited until use cases are affordable and provide a guaranteed return on investment.
