American fast food restaurant chain Wendy’s has announced the launch of the new Pretzel Baconator for the 2023 holiday season.

Available for a limited time, the Pretzel Baconator is Wendy's newest addition to its Baconator family.

It will be rolled out across all Wendy’s locations in the US from 29 November 2023.

The Pretzel Baconator starts with a half-pound of grilled beef topped with American cheese and six strips of applewood smoked bacon and is finished with ketchup and mayonnaise between two warm pretzel buns.

Wendy's US chief marketing officer Lindsay Radkoski stated: “Our fans' adoration for the pretzel bun inspired our newest twist on a Wendy's classic created for pretzel lovers and bacon fanatics alike.

“This time of year, we know our customers crave satisfying, comfort food they can rely on – enter the Pretzel Baconator, a flavourful addition to our beloved Baconator line-up.”

Customers can place their order exclusively via the online food delivery platform Uber Eats for free with a $20 minimum purchase.

Wendy's culinary innovation global vice-president John Li stated: “Bringing innovation to our iconic Baconator is a big moment for fans of Wendy's freshly cooked, crisped-to-perfection bacon.

“This artisanal twist on our beloved classic creates a mouth-watering balance of texture and flavour that's sure to meet our customers' evolving tastes and cravings.”

This month, Wendy’s relaunched its limited-edition Peppermint Frosty for this holiday season in the US and Canada. The Peppermint Frosty beverage was first launched in 2022 for a limited period.

It also introduced the new Peppermint Frosty Cream Cold Brew with chocolate, vanilla and caramel flavour options.

Peppermint Frosty Cream Cold Brew comprises smooth, cold-brewed coffee blended with peppermint syrup and served with a frosty creamer over ice.

Adoption of robotics in foodservice is at a nascent stage

The role of robotics is less sure-footed in the foodservice sector. Automating kitchens and meal service is less easily done with robots than automating warehouses and production lines, although this hasn’t deterred start-ups’ efforts to automate burger flipping and meal delivery with robots and drones. Robots improve profitability in the long term but have high up-front costs, so investing in robotics is not without risks.
