Japanese fast food restaurant chain Yoshinoya has expanded its menu offerings with the addition of its new Tokyo Fried Chicken.

The restaurant brand, known for offering Japanese-inspired rice bowls, explained that its new addition is prepared by marinating tender chicken in a sweet soy and a special spice blend for several days.

It is then hand-breaded, fried and served with a choice of Hanabi Hot Mayo or Sweet and Spicy sauce.

Tokyo Fried Chicken is now available at all of Yoshinoya’s restaurants and customers can order it as a protein in a bowl or as a snack-size portion.

Yoshinoya America CEO Jon Gilliam said: “We are thrilled to be infusing more of our Japanese heritage into our menu with the introduction of Tokyo Fried Chicken.

“This type of unique recipe is usually only found at formal sit-down Japanese restaurants as an appetiser. Our portions are generous as each piece is significantly larger than a traditional chicken nugget and it makes for a great on-the-go snack or meal option.”

Tokyo Fried Chicken joins Yoshinoya’s extensive menu line-up, which includes Original Beef, Grilled Habanero Chicken, Grilled Ribeye Steak, Grilled Teriyaki Chicken and Grilled Teriyaki Salmon.

Yoshinoya's offerings also include appetisers, snack-sized options, desserts and a new line of Boba drinks.

In February 2021, restaurant chain Jollibee teamed up with Yoshinoya to open 50 stores in the Philippines.

According to the 50/50 joint venture, Jollibee agreed to operate the Philippine franchisee of Yoshinoya.

Customer engagement drives metaverse investment in the foodservice sector

COVID-19 and supply chain disruptions following the Ukraine war have accelerated automation and digitalization in the foodservice sector. Home delivery services and consumer engagement through digital channels have become essential for businesses trying to stay afloat. Foodservice companies must also cope with ESG issues, the fast-changing world of work, and the global economy heading for recession and possible stagflation. The metaverse, enabled by both AR and VR, is an important tool that can help address many of the foodservice industry's key challenges.
