Georgia-based restaurant franchise Zaxby's, known for its Chicken Fingerz, wings and signature sauces, has announced its expansion into the US state of Maryland, with the first location set to open in Cambridge in late 2025.
Franchise co-owners Curtis and Teresa Snyder, alongside Teresa's father, Thomas Mitchell, have entered a territory agreement to launch three Zaxby's outlets along Maryland's Eastern Shore.
The Snyder-Mitchell family, with a background in real estate development, decided to venture into the quick-service restaurant sector after experiencing Zaxby's offerings in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
They were attracted to the brand’s strong market presence in the boneless chicken segment.
The first outlet of Zaxby's in Maryland will feature a farmhouse design and will be located near a Walmart in Cambridge. Additional sites in Easton, near a new hospital, and in the West Ocean City/Berlin area are also planned.
The family's vision is to cater to both the local population and the influx of travellers along Route 50. They are considering further expansion within Maryland, including potential locations in Salisbury.
Zaxby's chief development officer Mike Mettler said: "We are thrilled to expand Zaxby's into Maryland with Curtis, Teresa and Thomas leading the charge.
“Their commitment to their community and dedication to delivering a high-quality experience for customers perfectly aligns with Zaxby's values. We look forward to seeing them grow the brand on the Eastern Shore."
This growth strategy aligns with the brand's overall development, as seen with the opening of a new Zaxby's in Starke, Florida in September 2024. Owned and operated by Matt Karlton of Mattszax 301, the Starke location is the third under his management.
