Zomato board approves company name change to Eternal

Eternal will manage four divisions: Zomato, Blinkit, Hyperpure and District.

The board of directors at Indian online food delivery company Zomato has approved renaming the company as Eternal.

The move was disclosed by the company in a recent Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) filing with the stock exchange.

The consumer-facing Zomato app will continue to operate under its existing name, and the change will take effect on the stock market.

Speculation regarding a potential alteration in the company's name emerged in 2022, but at that time, CEO Deepinder Goyal downplayed the rumours, suggesting that Eternal was merely an internal name.

However, with Blinkit emerging as a significant contributor to the company's growth, the decision to adopt Eternal as the official new name has been solidified.

Divisions under the new corporate umbrella of Eternal will be Zomato, specialising in food ordering, delivery, and restaurant discovery; quick-commerce service Blinkit; Hyperpure, a B2B supplier targeting restaurants, and logistics and distribution enterprise District.

Zomato co-founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said in the filing to the BSE: “When we acquired Blinkit, we started using ‘Eternal’ internally to distinguish between the company and the brand/app.”

“We also thought we would publicly rename the company to Eternal the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there.”

Goyal further added: "Eternal is a powerful name, and to be honest, it scares me to my core. It is a tall order to live up to, because ‘Eternal’ carries both a promise and a paradox.

"This isn’t just a name change - it is a mission statement. A reminder etched into our identity that we will endure — not because we are here, but because we need to get there."

In December 2024, Zomato initiated a new safety response programme designed to automatically detect accidents involving its delivery partners.
